Meet Our Team
Mike Morones, CPA
Mike is a Silver City native and alum of our local Western New Mexico University. He earned his CPA license while working for Tizzard, Knuttinen, Wright & Bosse, PC in Tucson, where he met his future business partner William Knuttinen. Mike returned to Silver City to work with a local CPA firm until branching out to purchase a competing CPA firm. He convinced William to become his partner in Morones & Knuttinen, LLC in 2002. In 2021, upon William’s retirement, Mike began the process of transitioning the organization to Mike Morones & Associates, LLC.

Elaine Lopez, CPA
Elaine was born in Silver City and raised here till 1987, then moved to Pojoaque, NM with her mother and brother. She returned to Silver City to attend Western New Mexico University, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in accounting in 2008. She began working for M&K in 2004 and has been a licensed CPA since 2010. Elaine runs our full-service payroll processing division, Payrite.
Elaine married Joey Lopez in 2011. Between the two of them, they have five children who are all quickly moving through school and onto their own lives. Elaine enjoys family time, traveling with her husband, camping, and hunting.
Faith Cooks, Tax Services Manager
Faith is from the Cliff / Gila area on the outskirts of Silver City. She has been at the firm since 2016 excelling in the tax department and rising to the firm’s Tax Manager in 2021. Faith loves the outdoors and spends her time away from the office with friends and family four-wheeling, camping, and hunting.
Jeff Sanchez, Associate
Jeff Sanchez was born and raised in Silver City and is married with three children. He graduated from Western New Mexico University in 2025 with an Associate’s degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a focus in Accounting. Jeff worked in the local copper mines for nearly 15 years and later served as General Manager and Head Golf Professional at Scott Park Golf Links from 2017 to 2022.
Bernadette Polanco, Associate
Bernadette was born and raised in Silver City and graduated from Western New Mexico University with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting in 2012 and has worked at Mike Morones & Associates since August 2022. She enjoys cooking, fishing, camping, and spending time with her family, her two wonderful daughters and two sons.
